MIKE SANDERS, Nationally known Louisiana Knife Maker from Ponchatoula, La. has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia. Mike and his wife Mrs Evelyn were already living small on Social Sec, but this is a blow that has nearly crushed them both. Neither will give up or give in, but they could really use some help.

As a self employed knife maker of over 30 years, there is no pension plan. Mike started making knives in 1965 as a hobby. He's been a full time Louisiana knife maker since 1985.
Mike has made many knives over the years for different organizations and causes to sell as fund raisers and donations. He has sold and shipped many different kinds of knives all over the United States and internationally as well. Examples of the knives he makes include, one-of-a-kind Bowies, as well as daggers, miniatures, slip joint and liner lock folders, and fantasy knives.
Mike attends BLADE SHOW in Atlanta,among other U.S. shows around the country, at least every other year and greatly values the friendships he has made among makers there.

Of course, the knife that got all of this started was the drop point hunter/skinner that he made to take out west one year. At the time, he and his wife owned Sanders Archery and Outdoor Outfitters in Ponchatoula , La. and he was making knives as a hobby. Many of their customers liked his knife very much, and so many requests started coming in for it, that they almost didn’t make the trip out west to bow hunt that year.

Mike and his lovely wife, Evelyn, have been a team for 45 years. Evelyn does traditional black line scrimshaw work on many of Mike’s knives, when requested. She also scrims pistol grips, pendants, and ear rings for many of their customers.

Mike and Evelyn have bow and gun hunted and fished together for just as many years all over the west, in Mississippi, and Louisiana. Their son, Brandon, was born in 1976, and he joined them on their many excursions. Evelyn would carry him, at six months old, papoose style, in order to bring him up in the hunting tradition of both their families.

If anyone would like to send well wishes, thoughts, cards, hold a Good Cause Auction or outright donations to help a fellow maker and family in a time of need , please use their Go Fund Me site at;
